Go Away Vacations

Have Passports, Will Travel

Our Travel Diary

Travel is a funny, tricky thing; how does one go to another country and take it all in with an open mind? To me, the purpose of travel is to broaden your reality, experience other cultures and places in order to find a greater understanding of the world at large while finding your own place within it. The question then becomes, how do you go about openly experiencing other cultures and their customs, 1) without imposing your own cultural beliefs and biases upon yourself or others while you are there, 2) not allowing said self-imposed cultural biases prevent you from finding out the whys behind these differences, and 3) accepting them in the knowledge that while we may be different, we are always at heart the same? I believe that we do so with the knowledge that a person will likely always look at their own personal culture as being superior, but that that belief does not always make it so, and certainly one’s cultures customs, while creating an environment of survival in one location, isn’t necessarliy one that would work in a geographically different area. In other words, you should allow the expereience to foster an environment of acceptance and tolerance within your own soul, and try to remember that feeling even when you are no longer there.

Travel is a sickness really, a bug if you will, which, once caught, never seems to leave. It may lay dormant for awhile, resting from it’s last adventure, but soon, like a hungry beast, it stirs and comes back to life, making you crave something new, anything . . . giving credence to the phrase, “The natives are restless.”

Our site is a way to share our own adventures with you as well as a venue to hear stories from others. It is always somewhat of a revelation to hear and see things from places we’ve never even thought of going to so with that in mind, we invite you to share your comments as well as your own travel adventures. Don’t be shy!!
